Daki age and its effectiveness

Today, during a session of groundfighting, my training partner firmly locked in his guard and would not let go, no matter what I did.

My instructor walks over and suggests that I grab the guy by the shirt and slam him into the ground in order to get him to let go. Later, I learned that Bullshido's Judoka call this technique daki age. Has anyone else here used it?

If so, how effective was it?

In my early crappling days, some guy got pissed and almost broke my arm for doing this to him. I haven't done it since.

BJJ guys won't like it because it's against the rules, and will bitch about it because they think it's cheap. Judo guys won't like it because it's against the rules, but they'll laugh at you call you a ***** if you complain too strongly. You're supposed to reset in Judo if your shoulders are lifted off the mat.

I always attributed this KO to the back of Arona's head hitting the mat. Usually I think of a "head butt" as two heads colliding with each other. It's hard to tell, but I don't think their heads collide. Please clarify.

If you look at it in slow motion, Arona's head bounces off the mat and smacks into Rampage's head which was still on a downward trajectory. That's when he goes out.

Can it work? Yes. Is it usually completely gotarded*, spazzy white belt thing to do? Yes. Are the people who get hardons for it usually tapout fanboys furiously jerking to highlight videos set to 'Bodies' by P.O.D.? Yes.

But, a lot of BJJ guys feel invincible in closed guard because they never have to deal with the potential for being slammed. Closed guard is practically worthless in Judo.

The counter to daki age? A high risk move? Am I reading your post correctly?

The best counter to daki age is to open your guard and stand up while your opponent is lifting you upward. Not exactly what I'd call a high risk move.

This begs the question, what kind of instructor is teaching daki age and dodgy counters to noobs?
