So richard mueller WAS bothered by some of the issues in this thread. So he got some science pals and took a LONG time to look into it

Our results show that the average temperature of the earth’s land has risen by two and a half degrees Fahrenheit over the past 250 years, including an increase of one and a half degrees over the most recent 50 years. Moreover, it appears likely that essentially all of this increase results from the human emission of greenhouse gases. These findings are stronger than those of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change,

We carefully studied issues raised by skeptics: biases from urban heating (we duplicated our results using rural data alone), from data selection (prior groups selected fewer than 20 percent of the available temperature stations; we used virtually 100 percent), from poor station quality (we separately analyzed good stations and poor ones) and from human intervention and data adjustment (our work is completely automated and hands-off). In our papers we demonstrate that none of these potentially troublesome effects unduly biased our conclusions.

Just as important, our record is long enough that we could search for the fingerprint of solar variability, based on the historical record of sunspots. That fingerprint is absent.

If the scientists put half of the effort and money into finding a solution rather than proving an existing problem we might have had better weather this year.

Muller has always been the right kind of scientist to be working on the problem of AWG...unemotional, unbought, unbiased...even when "climategate" occurred he was the one to say "well a few guys may have fudged some numbers and acted foolish but that might not matter anyway"...he was never a DENIER....he was an AWG skeptic who wanted to know more.

Then the GOP trotted him out to talk about AWG before Congress expecting him to blow it away, and what did he do? He said the data still pointed towards AWG, all things considered...scandalous!! How could he not have touted the "party line"?!

Imagine that? A reasonable scientist who follows the data instead of political lobbies, pundits, and conspiracy blogs.

I can't wait for the mud to start being flung in Prof. Muller's direction now by the AWG denier crowd and lobby. He'll be cast as a socialist liberal radical junk scientist for sure.

That is how the right wing and their media outlets are painting scientists these days...a bunch of liberal wackjobs drooling for a grant. I guess the last 50 years of internet, computers, lasers, and space exploration were all pipe dreams too.

The only people at this point that require convincing are the ones who wouldn't believe there was a problem even if the heat caused them to burst into flames. Even then they would probably just chalk it up to the anger of some guy sitting on a cloud.
