Bujinkan Randori? Video

On the one hand, better than nothing... I guess.

On the other worse than 3 months at a gym that normally incorporates live trading as part of their curriculum.

The one thing I find completely unsurprising but interesting nonetheless, in the videos where there is an attack throwing limited attacks (and holding his arm out for a grab or throw) the defender uses classic ninja stances and hand positions. In the last video, that seems to be back and forth sparring, both fighters adopt boxing stances and it looks like sloppy MMA.

I'm kind of surprised they don't wear gi tops so that they can at least work the throws in their system.

These have been discussed to death at least once before. IIRC, the instructor even made an appearance on BS.net and defended the quality of the sparring.

Then record your special Youtube videos BEFORE you train for 3 hours, dumbasses.

Interesting thread, thanks for linking it.

I actually thought the instructor acquitted quite well. Kind of a shame it was in YMAS and degenerated in typical YMAS fashion, seemed like a good guy who is pushing his group in the right direction.

I'd be interested in seeing more recent videos to see how his students have progressed.

I wouldn't classify that as randori either. But it is similar in nature to the kinds of back and forth warm up drills we used to do in wrestling practice all the time. Ergo, light years ahead of just about anything else I've seen from the booj.

Would I recommend that over Judo? No, but as someone who routinely bashes ninjutsu I feel like at least this guy is moving in the right direction.
