Love the US Army, but hate berets? I have great news!!

Bah, if you've got enough hair to worry about it being messy you should be in a unit that doesn't require the use of a PC anyway.

I don't see any reason why the boonie couldn't be garrison work wear. It keeps the sun off your face and neck, which is the most important reason for wearing a hat in the first place.

boonie caps are actually a common part of every Australian kid's school uniform.

Here the beret is a big deal. It's only for very formal wear,
When you're in your A clothes - the ones you wear outside of base (as opposed to B clothes - which you wear working and doing ****).
In A clothes you must have it on your shoulder, and only for ceremonies and **** on your head.
The rest of the time it's boonie cap (Or B hat as we call'em) because Israel is fucking hot as ****.

The one thing is Berets come in many many colors for different units, regiments and whatnot:

I still have my red one, and it's in good condition, I'm keeping it in case my child needs a red one - It's not unlike in starship troopers with the pre-officer bars.

Just like the no-shine boots and the ACUs, a boonie cap never looks particularly squared away no matter what you do to it.

Also, the baseball cap is a bad idea. The NYPD actually did a pilot trial of it more than a decade ago and found out a baseball cap causes a breakdown of authority and lowered morale.

If the patrol cap were restyled to be more reminiscent of its ancestors used by the US in the 18th century, it could still be functional and would surpass the beret on the kickass lid "too cool for this" charts.

Regarding berets, you just got to know how to shave, shape and wear them correctly, and I've never seen a member of the US forces wear one that didn't look like it was perched on his head with a crease behind the cap badge that would rival mount everest.
