One thing that I considered, what is the provision of public facilities for sports & health like in the US ?
In the UK a lot of martial arts teaching goes on in public buildings like community centres, schools and publicly owned 'leisure centres' (usually a public pool with a subsidised gym and some kind of cafeteria attached). The teachers usually have to pay for their hire, but they're often paying by the hour, and at a subsidised rate. It's much, much cheaper than having a dedicated gym.
The only dedicated martial arts gym within 30 minutes drive of me is an MMA gym that uses contracts as an option, everything else from CMA to Judo or Kickboxing happens in public facilities. A proportion of the instructors using public facilities still make a living out of it, but this model might not be possible in the US.!!RENT SPACE HERE FOR 10 VBUCKS PER LINE PER MONTH!!
