Looking for Judo/Jujitsu on Long Island

Hey everyone so i've been through the search for this site and came across some already recommended places. Yet, all the threads that i saw were 2-3 years old so i'd like to see how people feel today. Also, it should be known that i'm a complete n00b. Though i should say i'm looking for self defense right now but am not opposed to competitions in the far future.

I live pretty far East on the Island, pretty much directly south of Riverhead.

My first idea is was to find some place to take Jujitsu lessons since i've always been interested in that. Through doing some research though it's obvious that there really isn't many good JJJ places around. I did find this place (It's American Jujitsu, whatever that means):

    http://www.theodorouacademy.com/jiu-jitsu.html

I've not seen any reviews for this, though i know these two Dojo's and one in the City are all run by a few Brothers.

If i decide to take Judo i'm pretty sure this place is really good:

    http://www.teamcombatbjj.com/judo.htm

    and for BJJ there's:

    http://www.vamosjiujitsu.com/index.html

    and

    http://www.darcejiujitsu.com/home.html

these are the ones i found, so im just interested how everyone feels about them (that is if your familiar with the area).

Also, in if i decide to take a different route, does anyone know anywhere that offers sanda out on long island?? All these places are with 25-40 minutes of where i live.

    thanks everyone for any help.

weird, did my thread get moved or closed?? I did have a full post here last night. So i guess i'll just rewrite the whole thing. Sorry Mods if i did something wrong with the last post being disappeared and all.

ok, so i am looking for a judo or jujitsu school on Long Island, the Further east the better. I live out in Manorville. So i've located a few schools and i'd just liked the opinion of someone who's been to these places or can at least make a better education guess than I. I've done a search of these forums and found some schools but those threads are 2-4 years old now. So here we go, listed from closest to farthest away.

    Aiki Jiu Jitsu: http://www.dojolocator.com/Aiki-Jiu-Jitsu/
that's the most info i can find on this place.

    The Theodorou Academy: http://www.theodorouacademy.com/jiu-jitsu.html

Close place, American Jujitsu. Could be good, some stuff written that site is a tad off putting.

    Vamos Jiujitsu: http://www.vamosjiujitsu.com/index.html

Pretty confident this is a good place, but i really don't want to do BJJ yet. I just don't feel like spending all my time on the ground until i really want to get good at that.

Team Combat Judo and BJJ: http://www.teamcombatbjj.com/judo.htm

Looks great, and from what i've read is nice. Downside is that its 41 minutes away.

So that's what i've found so far. Any help or advice would be good. I'm basically looking to get back into shape and learn some viable self defense. I've never studied a martial art before and i'm looking forward to doing just that.

Also, in a completely different direction, are there any sanda kickboxing school out on long island??

Ok, so i'm looking for a Judo or Jujitsu school on Long Island. I live out in Manorville so anything that's further east would be better but i'm not opposed to traveling. I'm looking to get in shape and to learn self defense, and in the future (when i don't suck) i may compete.

I've used the handy search function and found a few schools, but those threads are all 2-3 years old so some new opinions would be cool.

    So here:

    The Theodorou Academy: http://www.theodorouacademy.com/jiu-jitsu.html

Teaches "American" Jujitsu, could be ok some of the stuff on the site is off putting. Calling itself a complete fighting system and all.

    Vamos Jiujitsu: http://www.vamosjiujitsu.com/index.html

From what i've read this place is great, though i really don't want to start with BJJ, i'd like to not always be on the ground to start.

Team Combat Judo and BJJ: http://www.teamcombatbjj.com/judo.htm

Looks to be what i want but is 41 minutes away, just a tad longer of a drive than i would want.

So guys, what do you think? Advice? Know of any other places?

I'm also not opposed to learning a different style, i just want to make sure i'm not getting ripped off and not to travel all that far if i don't have too.

Also, from left field, are there any Sanda kickboxing schools out here??

Thanks, The way it works out that Smithtown Judo is just as far as Team Combat since it's further north.
