    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    Call me Sensei

So I was wondering what do your call the person who owns your Judo club/ teaches your Judo lessons.

I've created a poll with a set of options and I'm interested in what your coach encourages or demands you call him or her.

He doesn't care. I call him Mister/Sir Lastname or just Mister/Sir. Some people call him by his first name which is a little too familiar IMO. Nobody calls him sensei.

If I ever own a judo club I will demand my students refer to me as Dr. Soke Sensei Shihan Sir Lastname, J.D., Ph.D.

he has never told me to call him anything but everyone in the dojo calls him sensei. part of it is that he's a) japanese b) an 8th dan so everyone wants to treat him with the proper respect.

everyone else in the dojo, regardless of rank is referred to by their first or last name.

Conversely, how does the teacher refer to you?

He calls me "the hemophiliac" (or by my first name lol)...because I always have blood on my gi (not always mine though). He gives nicknames to everybody, part of what makes him funny I guess.

BJJ might make you a better ground fighter, but Judo will make you a better dancer.

My name at the dojo is 'You fat bastard'

On ukemi: "Come and help me with a technique you fat bastard"
On pushups: "Go all the way down you fat bastard, your belly doesn't count"
At the end of the day: "You need a lift, you fat bastard?"

We are pretty casual about names at my gym ^^
