MMA pretender litmus test - how to spot a poser without sparring him?

Personally, I'm 39 now and I've basically stopped competing after I busted my knee and had surgery for thyroid cancer, but I still train as hard as I ever did. My priorities have changed somewhat as I've aged.

Would you pay money to train at an "mma" gym where nobody has ever competed?

When someone annoys me as a poser, any kind of poser, I'll often stare at them politely without saying anything. Uncomfortable silences tend to make weak minded people babble on to fill the conversational void. Maintaining that silence has led to some hilarious confessions from these types.

Full disclosure, it has also resulted in a few challenges.

I don't know. I suppose it would depend on the instruction and philosophy of the gym. If they were skilled, did some sparring, and taught a well-informed mish-mash of arts and labeled it "MMA" I might.

I'm thinking of say an American Kickboxing school that also offered Judo and maybe Yoga classes and advertised "MMA" on the front door. Fine by me so long as the training is legit.

i have the girliest hands ever. my GF had to open a jar for me the other day, and ive been doing muay thai for almost a decade. I also wrap my tender hands properly though.

That(well...aside from the belt color...don't quite remember, but I'm fairly sure he was claiming a high ranking belt). Also, the fact that he claimed to have trained under Royce Gracie, but couldn't pronounce his name correctly....kind of an indicator that he was full of ****.
