The J is silent. (actually, it adds a dipthong, kind of like a Y sound if we want to be technical)

But you don't normally pronounce the J at all, not even like a Y if we are speaking English, you know - from England.

Last time I went to the UK, I met a canuck from Gimli (!) Manitoba (apparently, lots of Icelanders moved there at some point in history). Bjorn was his name, and none of the limeys thereabouts called him "Born".

As for Mjollnir, if one wants to get all super-technical, the usual Norse rendition has one 'l' and umlauts over the 'o'.

If one wants to get all English, the cognate is "Miller". As you doubtless know, to 'mill' means to 'crush' as in a flour-mill which crushes grain into flour...or an Ase's etin-crushing hammer. It's also the name of a piss-weak attempt at beer, and so a perfect name for the weapon of a blond, beardless version of Thor. Stan 'Lee' Lieber would doubtless approve.

If one wants to get super-geeky enough to get Syb's attention, roman-letter renditions won't cut it: you'll have to get out the motherfutharkin' ruuuuuuuuuuunes.

I'm betting they didn't call him "bajorn".

Flashpoint is pretty good, the whole Thomas Wayne being Batman instead of Bruce is cool, and aquaman is actually badass, which is a minor miracle. This reset button thing though is really pissing me off though, Dick Grayson back as nightwing? Gay.

Reading comprehension fail on both your houses. GOSH!

Obviously the j was silent my phonetic break down.

You must have mistakenly used an incorrect nonsilent "j" as you read it aloud in your mind.

I guess next time I'll post a .wav file

I love how a topic on Omega's mighty hammer has become a phoenetics lesson.

    Long story short:

I pronounce it , Myollnir...say it to get it.

Stargate SG-1 pronounces it Jjolinor....again , say it to get it.
