But Judoka_UK, isnt there any ancient japanese secret you can teach me via the internet that can make me awesome at life? I mean thats why I joined this website in the first place. I thought I was gonna be able to train the keyboard and be da ****, instead everyone's just mean and post silly pictures that I dont understand. I mean up until yesterday I was gonna quit both of my gyms so I could devote more time to reading the grappling forum.

Actually the best possible outcome is they land on their hands and knees/belly with you behind them, while they will be trying to turn and land on their back. So you need control, but it's not the same kind exactly as you want in Judo. A lot of guys (Saulo Ribeiro, for example) show some throws off a single grip for this reason in BJJ.

Just got back from judo. In the coarse of events I was paired with a new girl. We are doing some standing, fighting away, get a few nice gentle throws in. We get to situation where i have my head down, next thing I know she has me in a choke and that is that! When I got my voice back I congratulated her and kept my head up for the rest of the fight.

Yep, trying to be gentle with girls stops right about the first time you get choked out in front of people.

OK - I'll throw an embarrassing anecdote out:

Helping coach kids class last night. The technique was a standing armbar & I was the "bully". The class has done this or similar moves, so it went quite well up until a brand new student put it on me and started laying on my elbow hard. I tapped. Tapped again. Tapped on his leg. After I congratulated him on excellent technique, the next lesson was a quick review on "what does it mean when your partner taps?"
