Ok, I assume you figured this out already but you weren't physically ready to go big enough to account for the eating. If this is really your first strength routine you probably need to just focus on that. Then move to a eating/powerlifting program.
What you tried is possible but probably not at your current output and definitely not at your current routine's work load.
