    As far as mma is concerned, are judo throws realistic?

    I know that the groundfighting in Judo can be very effective but is it a waste of time to learn the throws?

    They work, easy example there was a video not posted long ago with a rent a cop vs a street punk, anyhow rent a cop did a throw and smashed him down....

    No, judo throws utilise special qualities of physics that only exist in the area of a judo match, hence they are not realistic anywhere else.

    I think I've been "whooshed" by a joke, but...

    Do these alternate dimensions where the laws are physics no longer exist open up locally in the dojo like terminator time bubbles when the judo class begins, or are these zones ever-present and have to be entered through tying a magic belt knot - like when Frodo puts on the ring in LOTR?..... :p
