Oh, I know. I'm more than happy to see lots of throws ruled out for you.

Although I guess if you don't have to throw flat on the back in San shou then you don't need to follow down to the mat, because you don't need the same control.

Chinese MA are all about trying to stay standing. There's no real ground game. They used to see groundwork as 'dirty fighting' in the way British men traditionally saw pulling hair or kicking people in the balls as 'unmanly'.

Modern Kuoshu rules now allow a few seconds of groundwork, but prior to that any ground work was limited to techniques for trying to make people stand back or take their legs out from under them so that you have room to get up. People who decode secret groundwork techniques from kung fu forms are smoking crack.

Don't want to derail too much, but that last throw by the guy in the blue was AWESOME. BAM!! How the **** would someone defend against that?

Not sure about August for myself this year (only so many family-leave-passes available for weekends, and this month I'm going down to Luton for the FMA festival, next month got our own mixed gathering.) Would like to if I can though.

Once I know I definitely can't, I'll start smack-talking about how I'd have Aikido'd the **** out of you all, if not for *reason for absence*.

Defence, that's what Cullion is going to need to work out, because that's pretty much exactly how I do my O soto gari.

He doesn't have the same grip to work with, and the throw in the video wouldn't win the bet anyway because he goes down with his opponent.

On the down side, I'm not as skilled or as fit as the man in the video failing to defend against it.
