Not sparring till brown is a huge red flag. Shotokan, in general, does not train as alive and/or hard as Kyokushin or Kyokushin offshoots.

To put it into perspective, I competed in a knockdown tournament, with my Sensei's blessing, after I'd been training 6 months and right after I'd passed my first belt test.

    How's it going Ryan?

Unless you find whatever Elwyn Hall studies:

    I wouldn't count on it.

I'd like to take Muay Thai if it wasn't so far away. I'm going to settle for Judo or BJJ next year.

I tested for black two months ago and passed. No more classes though since it's summer but I want to keep training.

What about you? Do you have classes during the summer?

Wishing you Good Luck. Especially when your training partner hits back with visceral-bone-breaking technique.

    Ouch.

In Trad JJ, the unofficial line is "you hurt me, I hurt you".

    That apart, Good Luck.

    C'mon, don't be like that.

Skankmonkey wants to break visceral bones.

What could possibly be wrong with that?

If you a lookng for dcent Shjotokan skool in IL area, chec out Midwest Shotokan, arond arlngton helights IL,

gd school, thinstructor is wll rounded, an the curriculum is pretty divrse
WhatI lik abot the schol, is tha they host visitors from vario styles, lik Shidokan, an Uecfhi Ryu

If you'heard of Nishiuchi Shihan, he' makes frequent visits to the scfhool. Likewise, on occasion, the school takes trips to Okinawa. PRetty openminded instruc whoincourges croos training. (lst Time I wasth ere DeSardi Sense was the head instructor. Great guy, hope he still around.

If i remember correctly Elwyn Hall trained with the KUGB and also had grades in judo , however , the KUGB aren't what they used to be these days.

    Haha.

    Indeed, sir, indeed.

I've just watched the vid and if ever I meet Elwyn Hall, I shall make absolutely sure that I address him as "Sensei" or "Mr" or anything else that meets with his approval. Otherwise I'm quite sure he'd kick 7 bells out of me.

    Cheers

I meant to put visceral, bone-breaking

and obviously it was meant to mean that I want karate that spars hard and conditions the body for toughness as a result, I'm not going to go out on the street looking for people to maim >>
