Master Shafiq and his Afghani kung fu are pretty awesome, no two ways about it.

I hadn't seen the monk video but its value is pretty clear. Those are good videos to show people who claim kung fu training is never alive.

There is a reason good kung videos are rare, imho.

Good Kung fu people need to make more videos.

I just realized after re-watching the first video, those are students of monk Shi De Jian, who National Geographic just did a GREAT article on. You can read the article online or pick up the March issue. It was very well researched and written, imho.

Battle for the Soul of Kung Fu

The article covered the commercialization of "Shaolin", the perception of kung fu in the MMA era, and of course the cloudy and often glamorized history.

Behind all that is a legendary fighting system that, when trained properly and with the right heart and mind can turn someone into a challenging opponent on the field.

As opposed to training wrong and fighting like a rooster with clipped wings or a Dancing with the Stars runner-up. Or, most American kung fu I have seen.

Clearly, Shi Dejian is the real deal, because every video I find of him, his students, or visitors fighting it is always alive, fast, and enlightening.

Shi Dejian videos are easily some of the best kung fu videos I've ever come across on Youtube. Definitely worth your time.

When was the alive stuff? I saw a lot of attack and freeze in the start then stopped watching.

Attack and freeze? Uh no, you must have only watched about 2 seconds worth. IT may have happened a few times (twice?) and they reset, but the senior monk also threw his opponent 8 times in the first minute of footage, while sparring alive. They are barely any different from san da/shou style takedowns.

If you didn't watch all the videos (especially the Shafiq videos), I'm not going to bother arguing with you over what "Alive" is. Go ahead and post the video tutorial on "Alive" and people can decide for themselves if these videos are "dead training".

If you're here to troll, I'd stop if I were you.

I watched until the monk started talking again. I didn't see the reset you mention but I did see the guy in normal clothes often freeze or moving in slow motion as if he didn't know what to do whenever the monk flicked his hands out. Could be alive and a huge skill difference or it could be dead training that's trying to look alive.

I was only talking about the first video, maybe I should have made myself clearer.
