    I think the posts that said he should have just rolled with it as an example of the proper technique, and then instructed you to do an improper variation so the class could see the difference. Happens with me and my Sensei in Aikido all the time. I am always giving resistance and trying to sneak in a strike, kick, or reversal when he has me uke for demonstration purposes.

    You should go back to class and tell all the other students how you schooled the instructor. They'll have tons of respect for you.

    It's a poor instructor who a) can't accept that a student will be able to best him and b) can't teach a student to a level where he's good enough to do so.

    OK - fair statement, but 2 things: First, I wasn't trying to "get" him, I was sincerely following his instructions. Second, I had an idea what to expect, since he'd done the demo before, but he didn't give me any kind of heads up before he called me up.

    That's fine then. It's people who can't understand the difference between demo and randori that get under my skin.
