phrost, in regards to the school buses sitting still while people needed evacuation help, do you remember the guy that the louisiana highway patrol arrested for grand theft auto(school bus)?

dude hotwired a bus, got his neighbors and their kids on it, and was on his way out. got pulled over and arrested.

But we expect the government to help us through all sorts of cataclysms.

Like when you dial 911 during a heart attack, for instance.

Your argument would be "then buy a portable defib".

I'd argue: "not everyone can afford a portable defib, or a personal assistant to utilize it on me during a heart attack".

So, for my tax money I expect basic first response services to WORK.

But...there are times when basic first response gets destroyed in the catastrophe.

And for those times, we have the NRP/NRF.

Well, if a fucking wall of water came over my home because of a storm surge that exceeded, unexpectedly, the local levees, I wouldn't even know who to call. I'd be too busy shitting myself to move, most likely.

And so would most of you (the ones not floating away dead)

Right, those people trapped on roofs and in trees had no cable, that was why we needed to airlift them to safety in the Gulf....

So, in the grand tradition of things from Bullshido shared with the rest of the Internet, it seems I have upset a small number of people.

The good news is that the number is so small that it shows the section of Reddit that I reference in the article is mostly reasonable people (or at the very least, that the reasonable people vastly outnumber the nutjobs within that thread).

The bad news is that I now have some nutjob female from Arkansas threatening to drive to my house... and... well I guess she'll admire my shrubbery because she left it at that, over the fact that I brought up her crapping out 6 kids as a rebuttal to her implication that she was a good judge of, well, anything.
