Study Links Tai Chi and Mental Health
A systematic review of research has recently been published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine. Among the elderly, Tai Chi practice was linked to improved mental health and sense of balance. Evidence of connections between Tai Chi and other benefits, however, were lacking or contradictory.
The article's abstract can be found here.

I liked this part the best:
Many studies were flawed because they had a poor design or were at high risk of bias.

The CDC in the US did a similar study, primarily for balance and fall prevention in the elderly. However, I would probably contest that it was more active/mobile Qi Gong rather than specifically Taijiquan, but that's probably just me.

There was also a recent CNN report on new studies showing tai chi (and yoga and meditation) benefiting insomniacs.
You can Google it.

And yet, most people heavily into taiji that I know are nuts on some level.
