Are you in the US? Wrestling if they have it since highschools and colleges seem to be The Places for such things: You may never have a good opportunity again, the training (I gather) tends to be hardcore and high quality, and the skills transfer very well to other forms of grappling.

Else, do judo. Well, do some martial art that trains regularly with aliveness, sparring, &c., and has a proven track record of effectiveness against resisting opponents as seen e.g. in MMA, like BJJ, Muay Thai, boxing, or, well, judo.

I use the word “judo” a lot not only because it’s awesome but also because it’s cheap, which tends to be an an attractive quality for college students.

For what it's worth, Petter made a pretty good point about the wrestling quality of training related to opportunity, also.

Excellent point on wrestling, but don't colleges usually draw from high school wrestlers. I had a friend who got a pretty good deal from the Army due to wrestling. Can you just walk on to a college level wrestling program though; or is it taught as a course of study? I know most colleges, even community colleges have judo as an elective.

Judo may very well be the way to go, as you may be able to take it at your school, and possibly it may satisfy a requirement for your degree if you need a physical ed course. Another advantage is, you would pay for your classes by credits per semester rather than monthly in dues at a dojo. Depending on how much per credit you are charged it may be cheaper to go through your school, and it would fit perfectly into your class schedule.
