Former NHL Enforcer Brashear To Fight MMA

Hockey fans will remember Donald Brashear from his days as a heavyweight in the NHL. A tough guy, although not the most exciting or popular fighter in league history.
Some people may write this off as a publicity stunt or a cash grab, but I beg to differ. Donald is actually known to be quite an intelligent fellow off the ice and is a trained Boxer as well as a hockey player. He expressed interest in trying MMA years before he retired and has trained in grappling as well.

I don't know how well he will do, but it isn't a stunt and he sure as hell doesn't need the money. I think he just wants to test himself. When he played hockey, he was a very smart fighter and employed a difficult, defensive style that made it tough for opponents to land successive punches.
Even the late Bob Probert, perhaps the most feared and well-respected fighter to play the game, admitted that Brashear was one of the most difficult fighters he ever had to deal with.
It will be interesting to see how he does.
Donald Brashear is also well-known for his involvement in this ugly incident:

    Eh. I've heard it before:

"So-and-so is a natural athlete, he did jazzercise once, he could be great, blah blah..."

Then he gets smashed by some big name wash up and nobody cares.

Yeah exactly, it bugs me that washed up NFL/NHL/Professional Wrestlers think they can just jump into MMA and be successful at the top level.

You dont get former WWE guys trying to make it in the NBA.

...did either of you actually bother reading the linked article? He's going to fight at Ringside MMA 11 and his opponent is 0-2. Not what I'd call top level.
