    Hell yeah! Hell no!
When I was at college (aged about 19/20), I spent a day carrying a live blade katana round town in a hockey bag. We went to laser quest, and shopping etc. Worst part was that I had it that day, because someone had returned it to me after I'd lost it drunk a previous evening.

It was years later before I realised how lucky I was not to get fully raped by the law. Especially here in the UK, where blade crime is a real hot topic for the police now. Even then, there had been a bit of spate of naked nutcases in samurai sword killings.

I **** myself a bit now when I think of it, but worth it for the memory: Walking across the road at dusk, wearing a Gestapo style black leather trench coat, long flowing hair, and a sword strapped to my back. Good times.

It worked too, as I'm now married to one of the girls we were with.

I believe when that's the case it's referred to as a CHL, or Concealed Handgun License. That seems to be the case here in Arkansas. Then again we don't have many restrictions on tools that can be used as a means of personal defense (shotguns and rifles in the vehicle, blade length isn't restricted etc.), just restrictions on deliberate weapons (switchblades, batons, nunchaku(lol), saps et al.). Also no open carry (thank god). I imagine that other states with CHL's would operate similarly?

Ohio didnt even have regulations against most of those. Pepper spray, tasers, sap gloves(personal favorite) and batons were all legal without a permit as far as I can recall. Here in NY is another story though. You have to register when you buy pepper spray, and CHLs just dont exist unless you live in farm territory. Knives that lock(yes, that includes boring non ubertactical folders too) are illegal here, tasers and stun guns are a felony, etc. So I'm pretty sure the sword thing wouldnt fly. Then again, this is the same state where MMA is illegal, so you cant really expect much.

It's only illegal if you get caught with it, thus the "executive's sword concealed in walking stick". When you need one, you simply won't care about the law.

Anyway I thought this thread is for making fun of Expert Village. So I present a link called "how to learn judo at home".

    http://www.ehow.com/how_6226811_learn-judo-home.html

Basically you make room in your basement, find a partner to learn kickboxing, hit a heavy bag, then look at the internet for judo. In that order.

Back in high school, I sowed together a nunchaku holster with a leg strap.
Not one of my proudest moments.

Can't speak for states other than New Jersey and Arizona, which are antipodal as far as weapons laws.
New Jersey bans everything, even violent thoughts.
In Arizona, however, you can open carry a weapon like a sword as long as it is in a sheath/scabbard/holster. If you have a CCW, you can carry ANYTHING except nunchucks and explosives. Recently the law was changed to allow anyone to carry concealed firearms but reading the statute, I don't believe you can carry anything else unless you have the permit.
Having seen people carry swords in public, I can tell you, it may be legal but it will get you LOTS of unwanted attention.
Why are nunchaku illegal? They're fucking useless. I'd fear someone with a screwdriver more.

probably because a screwdriver has a variety of uses beneficial to society whereas a nunchaku serves no other purpose other than pointing the holder out as a gigantic neckbeard.

Because with the American legal system, if you get attacked, and the guy with the pair of chucks TKOS himself (as I have done a number of times,) you're liable to be sued by his parents.

Nunchaku and shuriken are both illegal in Canada, and I suspect it has more to do with the sudden rise of kung-fu movies in the 1970's.
