Darce choke from half guard is something I was shown recently and I've had quite a bit of success with it. Most people tend to turn into you when you have top half guard which sets up the Darce perfectly.

Going to agree with JNP.....basics- pass the guard and if you're underneath the work on sweeps and recomposing.

I'm very partial to Kashiwazaki's material (especially the tie-off):

Here's John Marsh showing on of my favorite halfguard passes. Works well in both Gi and No-Gi:
    Cradle Pass

And if you're allowed you can reach through and grab the ankle if they manage to triangle their legs on your arm and leg and turn it into a calf crusher/knee slicer/whatever.

I've done that before while cradling an opponent, but my instructor flipped because leg locks aren't for white belts (I was rolling with a blue belt so I can't see th problems and they already know twisting leg locks). But thanks man, I'll try it during open mat =)

Just do the pass portion without the leg cranking then.

White belts tend to hurt people due to poor control. It's a safety issue. Besides that, if you had to deal with heel hooks and such from the start, you would never open your guard.

Pass or attack. Depends on you and your training partner. If your side control sucks maybe get good control in half guard and then attempt a sub.

If you don't know something or would like to know more about a sub, escape, sweep make sure you ask your instructor. Everytime I get stuck or am not sure what to do I ask. Usually if he doesn't want to side track from that days lesson he will make that something we go over next class.

Remember your instructor wants to help you get better. If you don't tell him where you're falling down he will just go about his normal lesson plan. Ask the question!
