    MMA

I have met the guy from the Atlantic mma before. I am planning to move to Hickory from ohio within the next month. I was looking for a place and came across some guy from that gym. Dont remember his name at all but I did meet with him and rolled with him. Anyways, what is the best place to train in Hickory? I wanna be able to not take a break from my move. I wanna train asap when I get to hickory in july. Any price ideas? Thanks!

    Hi,

I live in Hickory NC and can fill you in on such things. I do not think the Atlantic MMA guy is legit to begin with so I will point you in a better direction.

Gorilla Tactics - Run by a nice guy named Mike Bentley. They have three active MMA fighters (2 pro I believe) and are very active in the bjj scene as well. This is a great gym to train with. It runs about 100 a month for all the training you want. They have both striking and grappling nights. But they do not have a web site.

Superior Martial Arts (SMA) - This is run by Roger Carroll. He is a bjj bb under Joe Hurst out of Charlotte. He is a pro fighter with a heavy bias towards ground work. This is also a a very active gym in both the mma and bjj scene. This is also an awesome place to train with striking and grappling both being offered. http://www.teamsuperiormma.com/

S.A.G.A is very similar to SMA except it involves more karate in its striking, but still has very technical bjj taught there. It is run by Scott White who is an excellent purple belt. http://www.sagacombat.com/

Hickory Academy of Martial Arts is a karate school with bjj a couple of nights a week. it is run by Mr. Page who is a blue belt in bjj but a black in karate I believe. http://www.hickorymartialarts.com/

Carter Bjj - is run by a Joe Hurst brown belt and is strictly bjj. His name is Jeff Carter and is very nice and open to new people. http://www.carterjiu-jitsu.com

I have trained with all of these people, and would recomend you give each a try and see where you find a fit. Also I am linking to a thread I wrote about Atlantic MMA as it might be of use to you. http://www.bullshido.net/forums/showthread.php?t=105065

Please let me know if I can help with anything else. Good luck with the move.

http://www.teamsuperiormma.com/ SMA is a great mma gym in Hickory. Run by pro fighter Roger Carroll (active fighter and Joe Hurst bjj bb). Guys compete in mma and bjj comps regularly. Great group of guys. About 100 bucks a month.

http://www.hickorymartialarts.com/ This is a karate school with a bjj class a couple of times a week. Mr. Page the owner is a nice guy.

http://www.facebook.com/pages/Guerri...y/183242702329 Guerrilla is run By Mike Bentley and is similar in cost (100) and set up to SMA. They have very good competitive mma fighters. Also nice guys.

http://www.carterjiu-jitsu.com/ Jeff Carter runs this strictly bjj class a couple of times a week. He is a Joe Hurst brown belt.

http://www.sagacombat.com/ Scott White runs this place one town over in Lincolnton. He is a purple belt and very technical. He also teaches striking with a Karate base.

I know and have trained with all of these places. Any would be a great choice, but i recommend going and checking them all out and seeing where you fit in. Please let me know if I can help you out with anything else.

Also, stay away from the Atlantic MMA guy as I think he is not a fair dealer. He has also been banned from Sherdod for trying to sell his stuff on their forums. Here is a link to my write-up on him.
