In all seriousness, "Paddy" is like "Schlomo" and "Guido": turning a common name for a group into an insult. I try not to use them.

I'm not thrilled about paddy and mick being thrown around but sure Sirc calls people ****** all the time so I know it's just part of the rich tapestry of colourful language used here on Bullshido. Also, never, ever, ever let your guard down around a knacker and never take your eye off them, ever.

I don't think its quite so derogatory here to use the term, in fact he refers to himself as a paddy, so I guess it hasn't quite got the connotation it has in Boston. He also refers a lot to plastic Paddy's, which are fake Irish, and the slur there is on the plastic, not the paddy.

I've never used that term to refer to anyone, it wouldn't be my place to do so, I'm not Irish, so I really don't know when it's thought to apply or not.
