    Osoto Moving Backwards

Here's a vid on attacking with osoto-gari but tori is moving backwards instead.

It’s there, but it’s in some weird embedding method using a Flash video in an <object> container that does not seem to embed in Firefox or Chromium (which, however, automatically downloads it). You can get at the raw .flv file here: http://bionic-judo.s3.amazonaws.com/Osoto.flv

Don't know what happened there. I'll fix it up later.

Okay, everything should be working now. It plays in both my IE8 and Firefox. Not sure about Safari. Let me know if it doesn't play properly and I'll try again.

Sorry for the tech glitch. Since I'm my own webmaster, I choked myself out.

    Nice video,
That is how osoto is done in jujutsu against a moving attack.

The forward momentum of the attack is dispersed with the lateral movement and uke's weight is moved onto and behind the leg being reaped.
Because there is no contact until the point where the attack is intercepted a purely forward movement is not possible. The power is generated with the weight transfer to the platform leg and a hip rotation to throw.

    Dingbat, very apposite.

Nice vid Rainer. For those watching the step to the side he does is really important and you have to do it otherwise all sorts of things will go wrong with the technique.

This isn't a criticism of the demo, but if you are watching this and you're a beginner I would advise doing a lot more steps and that you do the step out step and then retreat a few more steps so you're allready 'offset' relative to uke and don't end up rushing to step out and then reap.
