I really want to learn the monk's spade. It is not a traditional weapon in my lineage but my sifu has studied multiple styles and is willing to share the other weapon sets he knows (once I advance a bit more).
I'm in no hurry, but I am getting to the point where I think I would appreciate training with a heavy weapon.

the structure of the san soo training i attend is fairly regular
we start with floor moves, (cobra stance, full horse, L horse, R horse, L kick stance, L cross step, L turning horse, L knee drop, L shum gac ma, full horse, then repeat on right side)
then a form or two, and we will learn a new form every now and again.
the forms i have at present are called fighting forms and numbered (i only have 3)
we then learn techniques. one per night. at my low level these are mainly defenses against punches, but i also have some for head locks, a choke, and a few front and rear grabs, but the higher up guys are doing levers. we repeat and repeat this techniques, the theory being that they must enter our muscle memory. in the 2 and a half years i have been at it i must have 60 techniques
so after an hour of practicing that nights technique we enter the best part of the night, the round robin.
each student, starting with the newest, takes the matts and practices that nights tecnique as each student attacks. at first slow, but i gets faster as the rounds go on
the shifu may then say, only throat strikes, and then we wil do another round. inevitably things start to get more and more painful as the shifu or one of the higher up guys starts doing levers, or someone gets a poke
occasionally we get round robin where every one attacks at once for say 3 mins, each attacker staying down for say 5 seconds when the defender scores a hit. these are great craic, but can extremely painfull as the adrenalin starts to flow and strikes get harder. wearing a groin guard is SOP
dress is informal, i wear my judogi, other wear karate dogi, taekwon do suits and one guy wears one of the front buttoned gis'
