    I know next to nothing about judo i've realised. do all the throws use gi grips or are their under-hooks etc involved as well?

    As a beginner you will learn the 'Judo grip' of sleeve and lapel.



    There are many forms of grips and different grips can be used for different throws. However, as a beginner you should be working from sleeve and lapel and no other type of grip.

    They do classes in Luton at weekends I believe, it all depends how much you want to do it.
