Pfft, there's only one changing room at my dojo. At first I did go places on the way home in my gi if I had to, because there wasn't time to change before they locked up. Only took one crackhead at a 7-11 flipping out about "the karate kid" for me to always have something I could just throw on over my gi if need be, though.
But honestly, not a big deal in my mind, except there are always stupid people out there who think it's some kind of challenge.

Hakama are perfectly suited to old fat caucasians.
Just as kilts are perfectly suited to slim Japanese.
Doesn't look in the least bit out-of-place.
