I do USPSA and unaffiliated steel matches...I am planning to do an IDPA one of these days.

The club I went with, people basically showed up with whatever they got, so I don't think a club like that would treat you any differently because of what you brought!

I have shot IDPA a long time ago, I now stick to USPSA and some steel challenge matches. I just do not like the IDPA ruleset(I like running my Limited racegun). Its a good time all around. The best matches to shoot, |IMO, are the ones with a loose set of rules that are more for fun.

No, they would not. Basically if you're using a normal gun instead of a race gun, your scores would compete against other people using a normal gun, and not people using race guns. 1911s are actually very popular with competitive shooters.
EDIT: The first time I shot competitively I showed up with a Ruger P97. LOL.“nobody shoots anybody in the face unless you’re a hit man or a video gamer.” - Jack Thompson

Been shooting IDPA for about 5 years now and love it. Cool thing is you can shoot it in your EDC gear and still make a go of it, shoot for fun, shoot fairly competitively or whatever you like. I hear we have some US shooters coming over for our Africa Champs this year which is great for us. Always good to have new guys pushing us to be better!

How do you shoot IPSC in Canada? I thought they really restrict firearms up there?
