    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    IDPA: who does it?

I went to my first IDPA event today and had a blast!!

I used the 92FS mainly and then for one round I used the i8040 cougar. My shots took just as long as with the cougar as I did with the 92fs.

One of my 10 round mags on the 92fs was faulty; maybe the spring was put in backwards. The round would bind inside the magazine. It jammed every other round in one of the stages, destroying my chance of winning the novice group. So I used the rest of the day to try different things and learn as fast as possible.

Things I learned: go faster. The competition rewards speed, not as much accuracy. (I only had 1 stage where I missed shots) I also need to be more decisive with reloads, practice reloads, and not be afraid to run out of ammo before doing reloads; if I lose count, often I didn't actually need to reload, and a slide-lock reload is faster since I don't have to retain mag.

    Video:

(this is the round with the cougar)

    So, anyone else do IDPA?

I do USPSA and unaffiliated steel matches...I am planning to do an IDPA one of these days.

Those videos were quite interesting; I'm now going to look into IDPA and see if it's something I can do despite my disability. I wonder if anyone would treat me like a n00b++ because I use an M1911A1 clone.

The club I went with, people basically showed up with whatever they got, so I don't think a club like that would treat you any differently because of what you brought!

I have shot IDPA a long time ago, I now stick to USPSA and some steel challenge matches. I just do not like the IDPA ruleset(I like running my Limited racegun). Its a good time all around. The best matches to shoot, |IMO, are the ones with a loose set of rules that are more for fun.

No, they would not. Basically if you're using a normal gun instead of a race gun, your scores would compete against other people using a normal gun, and not people using race guns. 1911s are actually very popular with competitive shooters.

EDIT: The first time I shot competitively I showed up with a Ruger P97. LOL.

Been shooting IDPA for about 5 years now and love it. Cool thing is you can shoot it in your EDC gear and still make a go of it, shoot for fun, shoot fairly competitively or whatever you like. I hear we have some US shooters coming over for our Africa Champs this year which is great for us. Always good to have new guys pushing us to be better!

I shoot IPSC, on account of there being no IDPA matches anywhere near me. I would really like to try IDPA, though...

How do you shoot IPSC in Canada? I thought they really restrict firearms up there?
