IMHO... I purchased a Bull Dog gi for the Pan tourney and it worked very well. Made from blue single weave fabric 100% cotton. Especially designed for competition.
Manufactured by Koral Kimonos this Jiu Jitsu Gi is a great choice for those who want invest less on equipment. This jiu-jitsu kimono is not pre-shrunk. The review says it shrinks up to 15%. I washed mine several times, always air dried it. I picked up an A3 and now it fits perfect (I'm just under 5'11" X 180lbs) a few weeks later. Like it was custom fit.
And regarding the comp thing, approved by the International Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Federation for use in competition.
The best part is $99! Oh, and they haven't been turning on the a/c yet in my school so we've had some pretty warm days rolling already. The bull dog is suprisingly light. Very breathable. I really liked how "plain" the gi was. The one I picked up didn't have the bulldog on the back though.
I hoped this helped some.

Weigh in wearing a flimsy karate gi, so long as it's the same color as what you grapple in.

I have been pretty happy with Submission FC. They are very inexpensive and have failed to disappoint me so far. They have a light gi as well as a pearl weave that might be what you are looking for.

You can't practice Judo just to win a Judo Match! You practice so that no matter what happens, you can win using Judo! The key to fighting two men at once is to be much tougher than both of them.

This is the Advanced Grappling forum. I do not allow off topic posts in this forum unless you're a more experienced grappler than I am.
So from here on out, anyone that makes a post in this thread that does not discuss the merits or shortcomings a lightweight JJ gi will be receiving an infraction.

I've heard and seen guys get DQ'd for the dumbest reasons regarding their uniforms. I went to one tournament where they wouldn't let my guy compete because he had a double weave Judo uniform. Then the idea of weighing in with your gi (I know they've been doing it for years) is foreign to me. Remember I was competing in smaller tournaments since 1996. I didn't come across uniform weigh in until 2003, which is when I pretty much went no gi.
