    I notice the kid is punching timidly. When I see a new guy doing that, I give them a three round lesson.

    First round,I tell them to expect to be overwhelmed. I give a lot of forward pressure, punching in combos. Basically I pull my punches so I don't hurt them, but just walk over them.

    Second round, I tell them to do it to me, while I offer only token offense.

    Then I ask them if they see how much better it is to be offensive. In the third round I just spar regularly, just going a little easy for a beginner. Usually they let their hands go more and show more confidence.

    As a guy who has done this many times, I applaud you good sir for not laughing at a newb for headbutting a glove.
