Central PA Throwdown

After reading through the posts in the other PA Throwdown I sadly won't be able to attend....dammit....

I decided that it may be nice to try and organize one around these here parts as well for later this spring/summer.

Sound like a plan to anyone 'round this area (and surrounding areas as well?)

Biggest drawback would be in finding a place with which to have it....I don't know of anyone who has a large open training area that'd allow us to organize a Throwdown, except possibly the local TKD/Hapkido guy I'm kinda chummy with....and even he's a big if.

So John, Budd, etc....anyone that lives in the semi-general vicinity have any mental flares yet? If you do, drop me a line on here and we'll see what we can cook up.

I've got no mental flares, but will give some thought to the idea. I know Penn State Harrisburg has a gym with some wrestling mats that rents for $250 a day, I think. That might be doable, depending on how many are interested.

10 people would equal 25 bucks a head- can we aragne that attendance? I would be up for it.

Maybe we could get Brad and the Mutt involved as well.

We might even be able to negotiate a half-day's rental and fees, depending on how busy it is. That would cut it $125 for a 1-5pm get together. Fair warning, though, the mat space isn't that large and the facility ain't air-conditioned.

Depending on what's going on that weekend i would be down. BTW there is a no-gi submission and gi BJJ tourney May 8th in Pittsburgh Pa.

Budd, the PSU Harrisburg rent-a-gym option sounds viable. I can probably get a few of the guys from my Dojo to attend, and hopefully we can get some of the others from around the general "here" as well.

$250.00 a day, split between 10 to 15 heads is nothing....so that's not a bad aspect either.
With that many it'd be between $17 to $25 a head....

If we could arrange a half-day rent, that's even better...but a full-day, or no day is better than nothing....with the extra time we could always give small lessons to one another in between bouts.

Anyways...I have ideas...and thanks for the tip Budd....

If we decide to go this route at the University, please let me do the negotiating for the facility, since I have some connections that might make the process go more smoothly.
