New Pistol

There have been two things to look forward to in the recent months, the birth of my first child, and the purchase of my first handgun. My son is not due until early june, but I did purchase my first pistol today in the form of a Walther P99 (qa in 40 s&w).

This being said, I am very familiar with rifles and pump shotguns, but am a total pistol noob. Handgun infant, if you will. When I get off of the blasted post (on cq...) I will proceed to go home and take it apart to clean the factory grease out before I take it to the public range to put 100 or so rounds through it. I don't have alot to compare it too, so I'll probably bring my wife's nine mil along for the ride and give a decent ish report tommorow.

Does anyone here own said weapon, and if so can you give me some advice on quirks common to the model.:EWBTE:

I think a couple of posters here have P99s, so check out the search function. While you're looking at old stuff, read this.

Don't own it, have operated one though. Is it the AS or the QA? Either way, good choice IMO. If it's an imported one, the P99 uses the same Tenifer finish that Glock does which is a metal treatment on the slide that makes it EXTREMELY tough. If you have the AS (Anti-Stress) model, it's basically a DA/SA automatic pistol with no hammer. Very nice trigger on it IMO.

You probably know these but it bears repeating.

The gun is always loaded.
Never point the gun at anything you aren't willing to destroy.
Finger off the trigger till you are on target.
Be aware of your target and what's behind it.

Thank you, most people don't realize how important this is. Good friend of mine caught a ND in his right leg.
