UFC star Jon 'Bones' Jones and Team Stop Local Thief Before Title Fight

Jon Jones and Team Have Warmup Bout with Local Thief Hours Before Title Challenge

Just hours away from heading to the Prudential Center to challenge UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio "Shogun" Rua, number one contender and New York native Jon Jones got a warm up bout against a thief in the streets of Newark, New Jersey.

Jones broke the news on twitter that he, along with coaches Mike Winkeljohn and Greg Jackson, spotted a thief break into a car and stealing a GPS.

"So, while we were at the park today a crack head smashed this old lady's car window and took off running with her GPS just as we were pulling up," Jones said via his twitter account. "Right away....Coach Wink goes after this guy. Without hesitation, Coach Jackson went after him...I was shocked and stood there for a second. Then I threw my phone down and went with my coaches. Before you know it, we're sprinting up a steep hill chasing after him. I turned the jets on....we caught the guy. We got the lady's GPS back."

of course, if the crackhead happened to have a gun or a knife, we might have been robbed of a brilliant ufc champ ...

Am I remembering what Joe Rogan said during the fight wrong? Because I thought Joe made it sound like Jones saw the thief and took off after him before tripping him and getting him in a leg lock while his coaches just stood there and called the cops. I don't remember if I was distracted when he was talking about it or what, but I was surprised when I read this article.

Ahh Newark, I see you haven't changed. I lived close to where the Prudential Center is now while I attended law school. The street in front of my apartment building always had glass in front of it due to the thieves breaking windows. The car theft capital of the US -- more than even NYC and LA combined. http://www.50states.com/facts/newjerse.htm Lovely city.

    Good for Jones & Co.
