I agree entirely. Noone's wrong in this thread. You "Learn" a move from your MA class, or from a book, or video game, but you "learn to use" a move from sparring. The purest form of sparring is to have on cups and UFC gloves and end the fight upon knockout, tap out, or saying "I QUIT". When you can't afford this, you lay down the rules. No hits to the groin of face, and go at it. Learn to defend yourself. Spar.

Like I said never went past intermediate in any style for the most part never went past basic . You want to go to these other boards and act like the all enlightening one , well all the boards have those who are new and those who have much more knowledge than you.

    What the ****?

I am completely not being witty here, but serioiusly, WHY DO YOU THINK I QUIT SOME OF THOSE STYLES?

Because they STANK. Or wait...did I not stick around to learn TEH SECRET MOVES?!

Perhaps the TWIRL AND GRAB HIS ARM defenses of daito ryu, once actuallized by recently discovered "applications" would allow me to use the ancient archetypical (female, which is why instructors wear those skirts) shape of the spiral, thus opening up a hole in space and summoning the hounds of tindalos?

Or would a box step pattern be better for that?

Totally weeping and sobbing+going off to beg for master to let me back in.

You get best at things by throwing yourself in.
If when I spar boxing I think of myself as a grappler who just needs to defend boxing attacks I limit myself.
I started boxing that way.But I got nowhere.Slowly I fell in love with boxing and now when I am sparring I am a boxer.
When I watch boxing I am not thinking about it's real fight or MMA application.I LIKE BOXING JUST FOR BOXING.
    I like jiu-jitsu for jiu-jitsu.
When I am rolling and in mount I want a sub, not to think "I could stay here and punch".My vale tudo sparring is for that.

Perhaps clinching and sprawling etc... is a form of grappling hedgehoney and WC Lawyer... But what I meant was that I didnt have to spend years learning all the nuances of BJJ to be able to counter it. A rudimentary knowledge of BJJ and extensive knowledge of clinch, sprawl and other standing grappling techniques should suffice... at least for me anyway.
