    Hell yeah! Hell no!

New to the forum, introducing myself!

Whats up guys, I'm new to the forum, and I'm just trolling around reading random threads.. I'm an orange belt at Japanese Jujitsu, which is under Shihan Anthony Quatrochi at AQMAI Jujitsu (which is in the Hudson Valley New York area), he studied under Professor Shelly who trained at Elmore-Ryu Jujitsu. My thoughts on JJJ or the Americanized Jujitsu is that most of it is affective on the street, I have my issues with the joint locks (people can be squirmy these days). My particular school doesn't focus too much on the joint locks as the end all be all of self defense, but need to be known for a curriculum.

there's a little clip of my shihan demonstrating self defense against a bat.

Other than that, I'm looking for a Kyokushin Karate school near me so I can add to my training.. I've wanted to join a kyokusin school since I saw videos of Kenji Midori, Andy Hug, and Kancho Matsui years ago.

Lots of good Kyokushin schools in NYC and through out the state. I'm sure you'll find something near you.

Although I don't train in Kyokushin, I do spar with some guys I know who have lots of experience in Kyokushin. It's pretty amazing learning how Kyokushin and Shotokan differ, and how they are similar. It's a good style of Karate to learn. But anyways, welcome to Bullshido :)

I don't know why your coach is practicing against a baseball bat. Baseball bats don't work in the street, they are a sport and are totally ineffective in a self-defence situation, because their mentality is confined by sport not the no holds barred mindset necessary for self-defence.

judoka_uk, I actually think you went too far there. While most sports might not be applicable to the self defense setting, there are some that can have effectiveness on the street, as it were. Why, just the other day I was playing pool with some friends and an overly zealous cue ball shot almost hit me in the groin. The point is, if you carry a bunch of billiard balls with you at all times, you can use those for self-defense. But that's about it. I can't imagine anything else would be useful at all.

I regularly carry a cue ball in a sock for this very reason, people said I was crazy.

I also carry a bowling ball in a rucksack for big mother fuckers.

"She" looks similar to the brick used by Ice Cube in "Friday". Any relation?
