The most practical forms of CMAs are the ones that train practically. Almost all CAN be trained practically—which doesn't necessarily exclude practicing forms and sets or even listening to someone go on about "chi"—the question is: do the schools convenient to your location train their CMAs practically?

So, what schools are by the OP?

Sanda/ San Shou is considered a style as much as Muy Tai I don’t think I would have specifically addressed the comment without the reference, even the post before yours referenced it as a style.

Sanda comps are not widely available for CMAs really they have to attend any event open to them. There are many styles that are not known for competition but that does not mean individual schools compete in various events.

Well, right now I live near Santa Cruz (about 50 miles south of Silicon Valley)

There's 2 Judo clubs relatively close by, and a MT club, though I have some doubts about the latter.

I read it. I think I just subconsciously post things to piss you off.

Btw Silverstorm, you did not list any CMA schools near you or your radius of travel you would commit to. Did you want someone to do the work for you?

'Course not. I just mentioned where I was because it was asked.

Rather than deciding based on what's nearby, I figured I'd rather go the other direction and decide what's worth learning, and THEN pick based on the quality of what's nearby. If it's not something I'll enjoy, doesn't matter how good of a place it is, ya know?

as i have said before, i think anyone seriously interested in practical CMA should train judo first. after a few years of judo, you will be able to tell a good CMA school from a bad one, and will have a delivery system that will allow you to use your CMA better.

personally, i wish i had done judo before hung ga, but now that i am in judo i feel that i understand hung ga much more.
