These tournaments are getting more and more common out west, and I really like them. It's rare to get the super-long matches that everyone dreads, and you get a lot less retard grappling (get ahead on points and stall stall stall). I believe that encouraging everyone to hunt for submissions and actually worry about defending them (instead of waiting for time to elapse) makes for better players all around.
The swords for prizes thing happens at some of them out here, and I find it totally sweet. If your team wins a lot, you get wicked after-tournament pictures. -
