Here is a picture of my rifle, and the sling I got.

EDIT: It looks like I might be missing one piece of the sling, to make the second loop at the front of the rifle. Does it look like that to you, too?
I'll stop by the surplus store again tomorrow.Last edited by Wounded Ronin; 1/29/2011 6:27pm at .

Just for fun, here are the mag pouches.

And the belt.

Well, folks, I went back to the surplus store and traded that sling for another one. The one I have is canvas, as opposed to nylon, so it's not quite Vietnamalicious. According to my reading, the military had switched from canvas to nylon in Vietnam because canvas rotted away too quickly in the jungle.
Anyway, the sling I got had the second clip on it, so it was much easier to attach to the rifle. I took a couple pictures of my rifle with the canvas sling. Is it attached correctly?

yes, yes it is.
You see the part you were missing, the sling keeper? You could have just taken it off of that canvas sling and put it on the nylon one.
PROOF that I'm not a completely useless poster:

I'm using the Viking Tactical (VTAC) 2-point sling right now (well, just got back from 93 day field op so its sitting unused in the gun rack now). Here's there website: http://www.vikingtactics.com/prod_sling_VTAC-MK1-a.html Its got the quick adjustment, and easy release functions, which are nice. It gets twisted, but its not a big deal. I liked it quite a bit. Its nice to be able to take it off your shoulder and toss it up onto the edge of a canal when doing river crossings, and such. Plus the quick adjustment is great for many reasons.
It seems there is a perpendency toward two-point slings these days, whereas on my last deployment ('08), a lot of guys were down with the one-points.
The two-to-one point conversion sling that is kinda popular...I find that one runs a little small, especially when wearing PPE. I think it was made by MAGPUL. Great idea, but not too good with PPE and ESAPIs. -

Yeah I've got one of the Magpul ones on my AR. It works great for me, but I'm a civilian shooter and I'm not trying to wrap it around body armor.
