    Hell yeah! Hell no!

So I just had lunch with my Pastor...

Admist our various conversations, he was telling me that came across a part time job he was thinking of taking involving a youth corrections center. Always wanting to help out he had expressed interest and they explained to him that they would be putting him through some self defense training if he were hired...

The type of self defense taught?

    Aikido.

I told him go for it and to show me what he learned after he goes through it. What would be cooler than Ukes getting thrown around in Hakama? Ukes getting thrown around wearing Pope hats!! :biblethum

You haven't read any threads have you? You'd be surprised at the number of LEOS and Correctional officers that have been exposed to or use/d Aikido in their Job. Yes, many post on this website.

Aikido is HUGELY popular in American correctional Institutions.

I've read them but it just takes on new meaning when it happens to you or you see someone else's exposure to it.

Especially when it's a counselor/pastor being taught teh DeAdly. :godtroll:

Makes sense. The church is already used to wearing funny costumes and compliant boys.

He said pastor. Which usually refers to a church leader of the Protestant persuasion (Baptist, Methodist, etc.), the same position in the Roman Catholic church is "priest", and it's the Catholics who have had the most publicized problems with the clergy chasing the altar boys.

(I say most publicized because I'm sure we followers of Martin Luther have our own wolves in sheep's clothing, no need for angry Catholic posters to post specific examples to humble me.)

Visit the dutch bible belt. Almost the same but with the difference that they molest their own children and not someone else's.

Well, I just reached my daily quota of Things I Did Not Need To Know. Thanks Rzero.

Turry, if your pastor wants to learn something that's actually useful he might want to look into this system:

The founder is a second degree blackbelt under Carlos Machado and most of the moves are based on basic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu techniques (although the quality of instruction varies WILDLY from place to place).

    [DERAIL]

    Language difference.

In the Roman Catholic church a "priest" is the generic term for anyone who may lead a prayer celebration in a church, going from the lowest rank of "pastor" to the highest rank of "pope".

For some reason this difference didn't make it to the "New World" and into the English language, so the lowest rank became "priest" there, but we Roman Catholics have "pastors".

What kind of Aikido training was he being offered?

When life gives you lemons... BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!

"what's the best thing about aikido then?"
