At this point I'm just looking for a good school (i.e., one that teaches realistic self defense)

I've found a guy who teaches Machado BJJ at a local college and that's great, but only meets 2x a week so that's all I can go. I'm looking for a place to train more and maybe do some standup as well.

I found a place that does Savate/Boxing/Muay Thai, it looked really promising until I found out the price... sigh...

I'll be down here for a year. When I get back home I'll get back into BJJ/Muay Thai. I'd like something that will go along with that. I've also trained for a few years in HapKiDo, but I've moved away from that toward more MMA type training.

I don't want to offend anyone, but one of the biggest turn offs for me is to see a fat instructor and fat students. If the insructor isn't in shape then I just can't believe in the school.

I hope this paints a better picture of what I'm looking for.

    Thanks for any help!!!!

I have reservations about this school.

They use way too many acronyms and brag about teaching the military and law enforcement. These are usually big red flags to me.

I spent many years in schools that boasted "training law enforcment." Then, I stepped inside a BJJ school and reality set in. Since then I've had the priviledge of training a little in Muay Thai as well and that pretty much killed off any remaining respect I had for many of the schools I've attended.

I have an open mind, so I will check this school out...

I'd check it out, but the schedule won't work for me. Many classes start at 5:30pm and that's way too early for me. Nnot enough time to get out of work and over there.

    Thanks anyway!

If I lived in Colorado Springs, Bob Vanatta would be on my short-list.

He's Victor de Thouars (who moved to SoCal a coupla years ago) top guy.

    I went to http://www.defenseinstitute.com

I signed up tonight. It looks pretty damn good. The instructor is top notch. No bullshido here.
