Hi

Although I've been a member here for some time, I've never felt that I had anything to contribute to a discussion, or anything I wanted to ask. I did learn a lot though, thanks!

A friend of mine is saving up some money to train with Jee Choi

He says this guy will make hima JKD AND Kali instructor in a weekend, for $1000 ! :new_shock

Of course this sounds like BS to me, but if somebody has some info on this guy, it would be much appreciated. At this stage its just my personal opinion and logic hopefully standing in the way of him getting ripped off.

The more facts I have, the more chance I have of helping my friend keep his savings.

Couldn't find an actual location for this guy from his website.

If he's kiwi, he sure throws around some US history (Bowie, Arkansas toothpick and Susan B Anthony)

Tell your friend to save his money. All this and no listing of teachers or actual arts trained.

Regardless of style or origin, claiming to be able to achieve mastery enough to be an instructor in one weekend is inevitably BS. And taking $1000 to do it just makes it a con.

Which is why its a safe bet you can't master anything in a single weekend.

the only way this could POSSIBLY be anything even remotely legit is if it's a program for people that are already an instructor of another style. Even then it's pretty thin.

That said, I agree with you - plenty of red flags popping up here, and I'd stay away from it.

Keating does a lot of clinics and camps. Did this fellow spend a weekend with, in his words, "Uncle Jim", or a decade? If it's the latter he may be worth checking out.
