    If you want to gain mass in your pecs, drop the pushups and add some weight to the bench press. Muscle fibers only get bigger when they get stronger, so up your strength.

    Also can anyone tell me the original source for the 2g per pound? That makes zero sense to me. Why the hell would someone report what you eat in metric and what you weigh in english?

    Me thinks a translation from source to general publishing went awry.

    Really ?

    By doing flies you're putting your shoulders in a really unnatural position
    to do a movement that has no possible application in the real world.

    And there is no basis for 'take 2g of protein per x of bodyweight'

    Assuming you don't have shoulder problems already, try weighted dips.
    Many people who are stuck on bench press find this actually greatly helps.
    (especially if you're better suited to the dip than the bench press)

    That is what I get for reporting somethign that I heard anecdotally, and had gotten the impression of from personal experience.

    Read somewhere that they are one of the better excercises for building size.



    For the record I made no comment about their utility (which is minimal most of the time). I was intentionally circumspect in that regard.

    No seriously, I was asking, really ?

    In bodybuilding terms, I've always had the impression that bench press variations were used primarily for the mass builder, and pec fly as a secondary exercise only.
    (or as a pre-fatigue exercise)

    From a strength perspective they're silly but I remember reading at some point that they are one of the better excercises for flat out size increases the rank at the top.

    I have the vague recollection of reading it in a Men's Health whilst sitting on a toilet, so take it for what it is worth.

    I personally have never done a lot of flies, but then I've also never had particularly big pecs despite at one point being of decent strength. Times when I did I at least convinced myself of the effect.
