What is everyone's opinions on these?

I took Handgun Level I and II at TDI(Tactical Defense Institute) two years ago and I remember John Benner praising these knives as excellent tools for handgun retention. He said he advised carrying them on your weakside opposite your handgun to use in case someone tried to take your handgun from the holster. Can anyone point me to a video of how to properly use one? My understanding is that they're slashing weapons. Finally, does anyone have an opinion of this knife in a role as a primary weapon rather than just a weakside retention tool?

I remember these when they came out. I own a couple of them. Its a good tough little knife for cheap. I remember giving my friend a serrated one when he became a LEO. He said he never drew it in combat because if someone got inside he firearm range, he just Jiu Jitsu them to the ground. But I can see the serrated version being good for cutting seatbelts and the like.

As for a primary weapon, I would check local laws as many states classify a fixed blade as a switchblade due to the fact you have instant access to the blade.

Not going into the fact if it is legal to carry, the knife design is that people tend to grip a knife with a strong fist with a lot pressure on their index finger. This usually puts the blade at a bad angle for combat. The angle down and cutout for the index finger fixes that for someone untrained on how to use a knife.

When I was a cop I carried a knife on my weak side in case someone grabbed my gun. I would use the knife with my left hand to stick the suspect in the gut or neck while I maintained my weapon in my holster with my right hand.

This knife can be used for slashing or thrusting. I say any knife is good as a primary weapon as long it is sharp and you know the basics on how to use it.

I have the 3.5" Ankle knife version. I carry it on my belt though. It's light and a little too small for my hand, but I like the angle and its partially serrated. So its half tool, half weapon. They're not too expensive and they do hold up pretty well. I'd say grab one to try it out as long as you don't have giant hands. otherwise your grip is very compromised. but I likey mine.
