    The only thing that i like about it is the fact that because of the linear direction of the glove towards the person the punch that the machine is doing is almost non telegraphic.

    Other than that its kind of pointless.

    I remember this from a very cool '70s documentary called "Gizmo!", which pulled together all sorts of oddball footage from old newsreels, etc. (and ended up making a nice point about how progress works).

    I think it was basically an engineering gimmick, though I can see the logic behind it. The boxer can practice countering somewhat realistic straight punches with full-contact strikes (including head shots) against the mannequin, which wouldn't earn him any friends if he was training with a live sparring partner.
