I find that a lot of libertarians are conservatives who dress it up so they seem different/radical. That's probably because nobody's heard of it over here though.

In my own simplistic viewpoint, I see "conservatives" as being conservative on fiscal, gov't and social issues, "liberals" being liberal on fiscal, gov't an social issues, and libertarians being conservative on gov't, moderate on fiscal issues and liberal on social issues. But this poll is for each person to self describe.

Really all I would like to see is are politicians looking out for whats best for the people instead of their party. Fat chance that is going to change anytime soon.

I have some issues I'm liberal about and some issues I'm conservative about.

Like most rational people I tend to only do knee jerk reactions to stuff if I'm trolling for a reaction, which I often do in daily life to wind up lefties for my own amusement.

I would say I'm probably closest to what an American would call a libertarian with some important caveats - I believe in a free state healthcare, primary and secondary education and a limited welfare state. However, in the same breath I'm also a monarchist, nationalist and free market capitalist.

My views can probably be best summed up by 'cognitive dissonance'.

I love how everyone crows libertarian when you say "Socially liberal, fiscally conservative"

No matter how the poster in question would see those two axis enforced or structured.

I think this is because it is becoming so increasingly common in the US for people to hold libertarian beliefs without having ever even heard the word libertarian, or if they have, they think libertarians are just extremist Republicans.
