Two Swords Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Academy
Monday, Tuesday, Thursday - 7:30PM - 9:00PM
Friday - 7:00PM - 8:30PM
Two Swords BJJ was founded by Pat Watterson, a brown belt under Tim Burrill and Abmar Barbosa. Mr. Watterson was a member of SEAL Team 8 and has worked for several government agencies after 9/11. He has trained under Pedro Sauer, Rickson Gracie, Tim Burrill, and currently studies under Abmar Barbosa.
Abmar Barbosa is the head instructor, and spends time teaching at the school when not traveling or competing. He is is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt under Robert Drysdale and Felipe Vidal. Originally from Rio Claro, Sao Paulo Brazil, Abmar started training in BJJ in 2000. He first competed with Nova Unio and TT, and then joined the famous Team Brasa, where he met Robert Drysdale. Abmar continues to compete under the Robert Drysdale Team. Abmar has over 40 Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu titles.
First and foremost, Two Swords is about building a safe and comfortable training environment where everyone pushes each other to the max. We live by the creed, "If I make you better, you will make me better." Our core values focus on attitude, compassion, integrity, discipline, honor, loyalty, respect and most important family.
Most classes start off with drilling a technique, usually a progression over several weeks, and ends with sparring. Often, we will roll from a certain position to build on the lesson, instead of just having an open mat (though, we have plenty of those as well).
As far as pricing goes, that is best discussed with Mr. Watterson. He does offer discounts for active duty military, first responders as well as family rates.
We do not have a dedicated children's class, but we are currently testing one out during the adult class. The kids are usually trained by one of our blue belts. If you have a child who is interested, please call the school and get the most current information.
The school is currently located inside of Newport Martial Arts, which is a Kenpo Karate dojo.

Does Abmar Barbosa still have his school in Hudson, MA open as well?
No, Abmar's Hudson school is under new management. There were some issues with his competition schedule and being around to teach.
I understand, he was an instructor for a brief time at Simmler BJJ in Worcester while I was there and I really enjoyed his classes.
