Jiu-Jitsu is the Brazilian spelling, it indicates that the style is not japanese. (Not always).
Just checking your grandfather wasnt 20 years too early. Jujitsu is the Jap spelling.
This isnt set it stone or anything, it was just worth checking.

I'm sure that there are some really long threads on this on here somewhere where this has been discussed at length - but AFAIK, 'Jiu-Jitsu' (or Jiujitsu) is merely an older romanization of the Japanese term. It's not an indicator that an art is not of Japanese origin - and is perhaps only an indicator that the art arrived from Japan in an earlier time.

Judo was sometimes called 'Jiu-do' or 'Kano Jiu-Jitsu' when it was first taught to the Gracies in ninteteen-oh-whenever-it-was.

Edit: This is why people who argue about whether Ninjutsu is better (or more real) than Ninjitsu are silly.
