    Hell yeah! Hell no!

    what is this injury?

I was doing some pretty hard sparring the other night, and I was doing pretty good. Got some good sweeps in, solid contact punches and kicks... at one point thought I had come in to a good flurry of punches when the other guy pushes me back. I let loose a kind of sloppy roundkick, and he raising his knee. I dont know what happened, but my lower shin/ankle collided with his knee and suddenly my whole leg was shooting with pain and I could hardly stand on it. As it is now, it doesn't hurt, but barely a brush past part of my shin sends the same pain through my leg, and I can barely stand up on it. Any idea whats going on?

What did Hapko say..."pain is weakness leaving your body"" or somesuch...
    Oh well...
You may have a hairline fracture, I would go get an x-ray to make sure before you resume training.
If there is no fracture just use ice massage and resume training S L O W L Y that is of course unless the pain is actually in the anke joint.
Shin injuries hurt ALOT even though there isn't anything to worry about unless you have broken a bone.
In the future, find the man in the forest who will make you kick young banana trees.

I'd say more likely bruising on/around a nerve.

I would agree. I recently took a hard shot to the chest. Two days after I was hit, I feel a burning running down the length of my arm and across my index finger. I went to the doctor and he told be swelling in where I was hit was putting pressure on nerves causing the sensation. He prescribed some Mortin and sent me home.

Alright. Its not really the pain that bothers me, but the fact that its still there. I'm just hoping I dont have any major injuries!

If you have concerns, or even if you don't, get checked out by a doctor.

A good doctor can be hard to find, but can be your best friend. My doctor is a martial artist himself and has several MMA fighters as paients, including a guy who fights in the UFC (he won't tell me who, damn doctor paient privillege). He understands what I do, how I do it, and why I do it. Whenever I even think I might be injured I make a appointment to see him right away. He knows how important MA is to me, and gives me good advice on things it is safe to try and work through, and things serious enough that I should shut it down for a while. My training is no where as serious as the other guys he sees, but he has been a big help.

The cool thing is I found him by accident. It really was fate. I hurt my shoulder in class, called my HMO to make an appointment, I didn't have a regular doctor so they assigned me him. They didn't know I did martial arts, and I didn't request a sport specialist or anything. I just lucked out.

I have a good job, and the benefits include health coverage. I know not everyone is so lucky, but I feel you have to include the cost of likely injuries in you training budget. If you can't afford to seek treatment, you should consider options to increase the safety level of your training.

Doesn't sound serious but don't take my word or anyone else's for that matter. GO SEE A DOCTOR!

I have a pair of cloth shin guards

They are light and offer good protection and actually allow you to spar a little harder. They protect your leg and what ever or whomever your kicking.

I got them here: only $9.49

hopefully he'll get to a doctor before that becomes necessary!

if it turns cold and blue, it'll be time to bring out the hacksaw.

The one piece of information that I find worrisome in your description of the injury is that you have pain on weight bearing. This would be uncommon if you just hit a nerve. It is possible you have a hairline fracture or even chipped a piece of bone off. Go get an X-ray. They don't cost much.

The shin guards mantis posted are also useful while recovering so you can still do some sparring without so much pain.
