Taekwondo is what happened when the Japanese introduced Shotokan to Korea. Native mindset meets foreign art. Meld, and we have TKD.

Sikaran is what happened when the Japanese introduced Shotokan to the Philipines. Native mindset/skillset meets foreign art.

Taekyon and sikaran also both claim to stem from old kicking games played in a big circle.

    This is sound advice.
    But to counter it
"When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me."
It may no longer be enjoyable to him. I would suggest he goes and checks out the school as well as several others now that has grown up some.

While pretending to know what's best for him, I would say "there are many paths to the top of the mountain, only you can choose your correct path" and because it sounds catchy and stuff, he will think I'm smart and won't suspect that I don't care and it doesn't matter.

    LOL!!

However I agree with Goodlun, you should try something different just for the Novel sake of trying something different. Maybe trying grappling since you have a striking and weapons background
